Atherstone Branch - Pony Club Mounted Games HOYS 2023 Fundraising Qualifying for Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) in any discipline whether it’s showing or show jumping its a great achievement, but those who qualify for the Pony Club Mounted Games Prince Philip Cup (PPC) Final have had to overcome many obstacles (quite literally!) to get to “The World’s Most Famous Horse Show”. The brilliant mounted games team from the Atherstone branch of the Pony Club have done just that, and qualified for one of the six prestigious ‘Golden Ticket’ places to compete at HOYS 2023 at the NEC in October. First contested in 1957, the Prince Philip Cup is one of the most respected and traditional team competitions in equestrian sport, with around 200 UK teams attempting to qualify each year. Originally developed by Prince Philip, the games were designed for “ordinary children on ordinary ponies” to achieve their sporting dreams. For this young local team, the HOYS dream has become reality! Part of this reality now, is the fundraising to cover the substantial cost of the 7 days that they, their trainers, support team and parents will spend, camped out at the NEC with their amazing ponies for an ‘up at the crack of dawn each day’ week of action-packed rehearsals, daily inspections and pre main event competitions, culminating in the three-day showdown to the PPC final on the Sunday evening.
